Are mini-splits expensive to run?
They're among the most efficient equipment available, largely because they're not pushing air through leaky ductwork. For a single room, running a mini-split usually beats running your whole system to cool one space.
How many heads can one outdoor unit run?
Depends on the equipment, commonly two to five. Each head can be set independently, which is the whole point — the bonus room and the master don't have to agree.
Will it heat too, or just cool?
Both. Modern mini-splits are heat pumps and they hold capacity well in Alabama winters.
How disruptive is the install?
Far less than adding ductwork. It's a three-inch penetration through the wall and a line set run to the outdoor unit. Most single-zone installs are done in a day.
