Opelika · Lee County seat · Alabama
Heating and air conditioning in Opelika.
Opelika was chartered in 1854 because of the railroad, and the town still carries every era since: Victorian homes in Northside, bungalows off Geneva Street, the Pepperell mill village, and subdivisions finished last year. Those houses need different HVAC work.

Working in Opelika
What we actually run into here.
The city has four historic districts, and three of them are mostly homes. Northside runs from the 1880s through the late 1940s: Victorians, Tudor and Colonial Revivals, and small Minimal Traditional cottages. The Geneva district adds Carpenter Gothic houses and Arts and Crafts bungalows from the 1890s to the 1920s. No one planned ductwork for any of them. It went in later, wherever it fit, and that's why one bedroom freezes while the one down the hall never cools. The fix is usually duct and return work, not a bigger unit.
Pepperell Village is its own case. The mill houses between Pepperell Parkway and 1st Avenue went up from 1925 to about 1960 with standardized plans. Small, simple floor plans like those usually do better with a correctly sized heat pump or a ductless mini-split than with the biggest system on the truck.
Out in the newer neighborhoods, the equipment is fine and the installs vary. Builder crews move fast. We find returns that are too small, condensate lines with no trap, and refrigerant lines that were never properly evacuated. On every AC repair in Opelika we measure static pressure and temperature split first, so you pay for the actual problem.
The city also has an unusual utility picture. Depending on your address, your power comes from Opelika Power Services, Alabama Power or Tallapoosa River Electric Cooperative, and the city lists Spire and Southeast Gas as natural gas providers. That changes the math when you're choosing between a gas furnace and a heat pump, and we'll price both.
