Home / Indoor air quality

Auburn · Opelika · Phenix City · Smiths Station

For the house that smells musty and the person who's always stuffy indoors.

Alabama humidity gets into everything. When a system runs nine months a year in this climate, what grows on a cold coil ends up in every room of your house.

Air quality assessment included with any $49 Monarch Check.

Sound familiar?

What poor indoor air actually looks like.

A musty smell when the system kicks onAlmost always biological growth on the evaporator coil or in a wet drain pan.
Symptoms that ease when you leave the houseWorth investigating. Air that circulates through the same coil all day carries whatever's on it.
Dust that comes back two days after cleaningOften leaky return ductwork pulling attic or crawlspace air into your system.
The house feels clammy at 72 degreesA system that's oversized cools fast and shuts off before it dehumidifies. Humidity is comfort.
Visible growth around vents or in the closetDon't paint over it. Find out where the moisture is coming from first.
Filters go black in a monthSomething upstream of the filter is feeding it. That's diagnosable.

What's included

Air quality work we do.

We start by finding the source. Equipment comes second — no point purifying air that a leaky return keeps re-contaminating.

  • Indoor air quality evaluation and moisture source diagnosis
  • Evaporator coil and blower wheel cleaning
  • REME HALO and comparable whole-home air purification
  • UV air treatment installed at the coil
  • Biological growth remediation on system components
  • Filtration upgrades sized to your equipment's airflow
  • Drain pan, trap and condensate line correction
  • Return air leak diagnosis and sealing

Where to start

Questions we get

Air quality questions, answered straight.

Do UV lights and purifiers actually work?

Installed correctly, at the coil, they do meaningful work keeping growth off the coil itself. What they don't do is fix a moisture problem or a leaky return — that's why we diagnose the source first.

What filter should I use?

The highest MERV your system can move air through, and no higher. A filter too restrictive for your blower starves airflow, which freezes coils and shortens equipment life. We'll check the static pressure and tell you what yours can handle.

Is duct cleaning worth it?

Sometimes. If ducts are genuinely contaminated, yes. If a company is selling you a $99 whole-house duct cleaning over the phone without looking, be careful. We'll show you photos of what's actually in there.

What causes the musty smell?

Usually growth on a coil that stays wet, or a drain pan that isn't draining. It's fixable, and it's cheaper to fix than to live with.
