Working in Smiths Station

What we actually run into here.

Smiths Station was incorporated in 2001, but it had been growing long before that as a bedroom community for Opelika and Phenix City, especially after Highway 280 went to four lanes in the early 1980s. It grew in stages, so older homes and brand-new construction share the same roads. A house in Wisteria Cove and a house a mile down the Lee Road can need completely different things: one wants its first $49 tune-up and a check of the builder install, the other wants an honest talk about HVAC replacement in Smiths Station versus one more repair.

The city's own utility list names Alabama Power for electricity, and Tallapoosa River Electric Cooperative keeps an office on Lee Road 243 for its members in this part of Lee County. The same list has no natural gas provider, and the city points residents to a local propane company. If your house has no gas line, your heat comes from a heat pump, electric strips or a propane furnace, and each fails in its own way. Owner Michael Stewart is NATE certified in heat pumps, and that training covers the equipment behind most heating repair in Smiths Station calls in all-electric homes.

Summers here are long and humid. An AC that holds 74 degrees but leaves the house clammy is not doing its whole job. Usually that comes down to airflow, a dirty coil or a system sized too big for the house. Sometimes it takes AC repair; sometimes it takes a whole-home dehumidifier from our indoor air quality work. We measure first and tell you which.

One local quirk: much of Smiths Station keeps Eastern time even though Alabama officially runs on Central, and City Hall posts its hours in Eastern. When you book, say which clock you're on so the arrival window means what you think it means.

Common calls

Six things Smiths Station homeowners call us about.

House is cool but stickyLong humid afternoons expose weak moisture removal: coil, airflow or oversizing.
Heat pump living on backup stripsThe first cold snap shows it on the Alabama Power or TREC bill.
A new home's first few yearsWarranty registration, first maintenance, and a look at builder ductwork.
Propane furnaces and dual-fuel setupsCommon where there's no gas line. Burners, igniters and safety checks.
Bonus rooms and garages the main system never reachedUsually a mini-split job, not a bigger system.
Keeping the AC on through an outageGenerac standby generators sized to run the cooling, not just the lights.

Where we work in Smiths Station

Roads, neighborhoods and nearby towns.

We cover the whole city and the unincorporated Lee County roads around it. That includes the streets near City Hall on Panther Parkway and Lee Road 430, newer neighborhoods like Wisteria Cove off Carden Road and Smiths Walk, established streets like Shadow Wood Drive and White Oak Place, and the homes along US 280 and 431.

Toward the Chattahoochee, we work Goat Rock Estates, Lake Oliver Road and the Lee Road 315 area, and north of town around Lake Harding. Out here a standby generator keeps the AC running through an outage, and a ductless mini-split is the simple way to cool a boathouse, workshop or screened porch.

Questions we get

Straight answers for Smiths Station homeowners.

My power bill comes from TREC, not Alabama Power. Does that change anything? Not for the repair. The diagnostic and pricing are the same either way. Tallapoosa River Electric Cooperative does offer its members free energy audits and HVAC design help, so if you are weighing a replacement, get that audit and bring it to the estimate.
Will my arrival window be in Central or Eastern time?Tell us which clock you are on when you book, and ask for the window in that time. Much of Smiths Station keeps Eastern time even though Alabama is officially on Central, so it is worth saying out loud.
We don't have natural gas. What are our heating options?A heat pump, a propane furnace, or a dual-fuel system that uses both. Winters in Smiths Station are short, so a well-matched heat pump carries most homes through January and only leans on its electric strips during a real freeze. We will walk you through the trade-offs of each before you choose.
Do you work on the lake homes near Goat Rock and Lake Harding?Yes. They are part of our Smiths Station service area, with the same $119 diagnostic and the same written price before any work starts.
How do I know you're properly licensed?Monarch holds Alabama HVAC contractor license No. 2024071 and is insured. Michael is EPA Universal certified and NATE certified in heat pumps.
Can I spread out the cost of a new system?Yes. We offer Wisetack financing, plus options for homeowners who don't qualify there. All subject to credit approval.
